Step-by-step instructions
- Step 1
Step 1. Cut plywood
Cut all panels per the cut list.

Step 2. Assemble box
Screw sides between front and back. Add bottom panel. Joinery (Wood glue + screws): Apply a thin even bead of glue on the mating surface, clamp the joint, pre-drill pilot holes (1/8"), then drive screws to pull the joint tight. Wipe glue squeeze-out immediately with a damp rag.

Step 3. Attach lid hinge
Mount piano hinge to back edge of lid and box.

Step 4. Trim edges
Add 1x2 trim to hide plywood edges.

Sand and paint or stain.

Beginner mistakes to avoid
- •Skipping measurement double-checks — measure twice, cut once.
- •Forgetting to pre-drill pilot holes, causing wood to split.
- •Over-tightening screws and stripping the wood.
- •Skipping sanding between coats of finish.
Final inspection checklist
- All joints are tight and square.
- No exposed screw heads on visible surfaces.
- All edges sanded smooth (no splinters).
- Finish is evenly applied and fully dry.
- Piece sits flat without wobbling.
